About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Sociology to join our Social Sciences / Humanities team from September. The successful candidate will teach Sociology across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5, including Year 10, Year 11, Year 12, and Year 13.
This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate educator to inspire students, develop critical thinking skills, and contribute to a growing and successful subject area. You will play a key role in delivering engaging lessons that support strong academic achievement and student progression to further and higher education.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver high-quality Sociology lessons across KS4 and KS5
- Prepare students effectively for GCSE and A Level examinations
- Assess, monitor, and report on student progress in line with school policies
- Develop and review schemes of work and curriculum materials
- Provide academic guidance and support to students
- Contribute to departmental planning and whole-school initiatives
- Maintain high standards of classroom management and behaviour
- Participate in parents’ evenings, open evenings, and enrichment activities
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Degree in Sociology or a related subject
- Strong subject knowledge across GCSE and A Level content
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to engage and motivate learners of different abilities
- Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
Desirable
- Experience teaching Sociology at both KS4 and KS5
- Knowledge of current GCSE and A Level exam specifications
- Experience contributing to curriculum development
- Ability to support extracurricular or enrichment opportunities
