About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, and forward-thinking Head of Science to lead our successful Science Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled teacher and leader to shape the strategic direction of science education across the school while continuing to teach at A Level and GCSE.
The successful candidate will be passionate about inspiring students, committed to high standards of teaching and learning, and able to motivate and develop a team of science teachers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strong leadership and strategic direction for the Science Department
- Teach Science across Key Stages 3–5, including A Level
- Monitor and raise student achievement and progress in Science
- Develop and implement an engaging and challenging curriculum
- Lead, support, and appraise departmental staff
- Manage departmental resources and budgets effectively
- Analyse performance data and implement improvement strategies
- Promote STEM opportunities, enrichment activities, and wider participation in science
- Ensure high standards of behaviour, safety, and laboratory practice
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
- Degree in a Science-related subject
- Proven experience teaching Science at secondary level, including A Level
- Demonstrable leadership or management experience
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Commitment to raising achievement and maintaining high expectations
