Job Title: Humanities Teacher

Start Date: January 2026

Salary: MPS/UPS 

Reporting to: Head of Humanities / Headteacher

Job Purpose:

To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in Humanities subjects (typically History, Geography, and Religious Education) to secondary school students (Key Stages 3 and 4, potentially Key Stage 5), ensuring student progress and fostering a love of learning in the humanities.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons in accordance with the National Curriculum.
  • Teach across Key Stages 3 and 4; Key Stage 5 if applicable.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies to meet the diverse learning needs of pupils.
  • Assess, monitor, and report on students’ progress and attainment.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Promote high standards of literacy, numeracy, and oracy across all Humanities subjects.

Curriculum Development:

  • Contribute to the development, evaluation, and refinement of the Humanities curriculum.
  • Take part in collaborative planning within the department.

Pastoral Responsibilities:

  • Act as a form tutor, providing pastoral support and monitoring students’ well-being and academic progress.
  • Communicate with parents/carers regarding student progress and concerns.

Professional Development:

  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities.
  • Engage with school performance management/appraisal systems.
  • Wider School Contribution
  • Contribute to extra-curricular activities, including school trips, clubs, or enrichment programmes related to Humanities.
  • Uphold and promote the values, ethos, and policies of the school.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Degree in a Humanities subject (e.g., History, Geography, RE)
  • Experience teaching Humanities at KS3 and KS4
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching at Key Stage 5
  • Ability to teach more than one Humanities subject
  • Knowledge of current educational developments and best practice in Humanities teaching
