Job Title: Teacher of Business
Reporting To: Head of Business / Head of Subject / Subject Leader
Start Date: January 2026
Key Purpose of the Role:
- To plan, deliver, assess, and review high quality Business / Business Studies lessons across Key Stages 3, 4 (GCSE), and optionally Key Stage 5 (A‐level)
- To inspire and motivate students to achieve their full potential in Business concepts, enterprise, finance, marketing etc.
- To maintain high standards of learning, behavior, and academic progress in line with school and departmental expectations
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Learning
- Prepare and deliver engaging, well‐structured lessons that cover the full curriculum/specification for Business / Business Studies.
- Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of students of all abilities, including those with additional learning needs.
- Use a variety of teaching and learning styles to promote interest, motivation, and independent learning.
- Set clear lesson objectives; plan out schemes of work; ensure continuity, progression, and coherence across lessons.
Assessment & Feedback:
- Set, mark, and return work regularly; provide timely and constructive feedback to help students improve.
- Use assessment data (internal and external) to track student progress; identify students under‐achieving and implement interventions.
- Prepare students for examinations; supervise and assess coursework as appropriate.
Curriculum & Resource Development:
- Contribute to the design and review of schemes of work and resources, ensuring they are up to date and relevant.
- Keep subject knowledge and pedagogic skills current; adopt new techniques and technologies as appropriate.
Pastoral & Wider School Responsibilities:
- Participate in the pastoral system (e.g. as tutor) where required; support student well‐being, behavior, attitude to learning.
- Liaise with form tutors, year leaders, parents/carers as needed to support student progress.
- Attend and contribute to departmental / staff meetings; participate in school events, enrichment, trips etc.
Professional Development:
- Engage in continuous professional development; reflect on own practice and work with colleagues to share good practice.
- Participate in performance management / appraisal processes.
Other Duties:
- Maintain classroom discipline in line with the school’s behavior policy.
- Ensure safety, welfare, and care of students under one’s supervision.
- Maintain accurate records of student work, attendance, achievement.
- Adhere to school policies (e.g. safeguarding, inclusion, health & safety).
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or equivalent)
- Experience teaching Business / Business Studies in a secondary setting (ideally across KS4 and KS5)
- Strong subject knowledge: enterprise, finance, marketing, possibly economics if taught together
Skills & Attributes:
- Excellent classroom management skills
- Good communication skills (with students, parents, colleagues)
- Ability to use assessment data effectively to drive improvement
- Well‑organized, reliable, good at planning ahead
- Flexible, able to adapt to changing needs, willing to take on extra responsibilities
Desirable:
- Experience teaching A‐level Business / Economics
- Innovation in curriculum delivery; use of real‐world/business links in teaching
- Experience with enrichment / co‐curricular Business activities (e.g. business competitions, enterprise projects)
- ICT competence; using digital tools in teaching and learning
Other Points:
Must hold an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance and comply with safeguarding requirements.
