Overview

Job Title: Teacher of PE for Girls

Job Purpose:

To deliver high-quality Physical Education lessons to secondary school girls, fostering a positive attitude toward physical activity, promoting health and well-being, and supporting students in developing skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging and inclusive PE lessons for girls across Key Stages 3 and 4 (and possibly, KS5).
  • Promote physical fitness, health education, and positive attitudes toward sport and physical activity.
  • Organise and supervise extracurricular sports clubs, teams, and inter-school competitions.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, maintaining accurate records and providing regular feedback to students and parents.
  • Maintain a safe, stimulating, and supportive learning environment.
  • Uphold high standards of student behaviour and discipline during lessons, changing times, and sporting events.
  • Collaborate with other members of the PE department to contribute to curriculum planning and school sports initiatives.
  • Identify and support students with additional physical, emotional, or learning needs.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are met during all physical activities and in the use of PE equipment and facilities.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Degree in Physical Education or a related field.
  • Experience teaching PE at secondary level.
  • Strong knowledge of the secondary PE curriculum and assessment strategies.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire girls to participate and excel in physical activity.
  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

  • Experience coaching or leading girls’ sports teams (e.g., netball, football, athletics).
  • First aid certification.
  • Experience organising school fixtures or sports days.
  • Willingness to contribute to whole-school life and pastoral care.
