Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Reports to: Class Teacher / SENCO / Head of Department
Location: Independent Secondary School (Key Stages 3 and 4, possibly 5)
Job Purpose:
To support teaching and learning across the curriculum, working under the direction of class teachers and senior staff. The role involves assisting pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development, particularly supporting those with additional needs, to help them reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
Classroom Support:
- Assist the teacher in delivering lessons by supporting pupils individually or in small groups.
- Help with classroom setup, resource preparation, and displays.
- Promote positive behaviour and help maintain a focused learning environment.
Pupil Support:
- Provide targeted support for students, including those with SEN, EAL (English as an Additional Language), or behavioural needs.
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Encourage the development of independent learning skills.
Administrative Support:
- Support with marking, record-keeping, and maintaining pupil data as directed by teaching staff.
- Assist with school events, trips, and extracurricular activities as needed.
Collaboration:
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other professionals to support student development.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings when required.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent).
- Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (desirable).
- Experience working with secondary-aged pupils (11–16 or 18).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a team and under direction.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
